01 / Inside Synapse

Everything about a client, in one place.

Synapse isn't a wiki with extras bolted on. Each area is purpose-built for IT teams who need their documentation to work when the call comes in at 2am — and to stay secure the rest of the time.

M-01 · Clients

Multi-tenant by design

Document every organisation you support. Each client's data is strictly isolated, with its own readable activity feed and archive-and-restore safety net.

Strict tenant isolation between clients Per-client audit feed Tags to group & filter
M-02 · The Vault

Credentials, properly

Passwords and secrets are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, with the ciphertext padded so the database can't even reveal a password's length. The key is held separately from the data.

Reveal requires fresh MFA (step-up) Timed reveal with countdown, then re-hides Rate-limited & written to the audit log
M-03 · Devices & assets

The whole environment

Firewalls, switches, routers, access points, NVRs, UPSs, NAS and more — plus servers, workstations and the software you track. Catalogues keep device types, operating systems and manufacturers consistent.

Network devices & hardware assets Catalogue-backed, consistent data Linked to credentials & documents
M-04 · Documents & notes

Files and context

Store network diagrams, contracts and runbooks — drag-and-drop, with in-app preview for PDFs and images, up to 50 MB each. Files live under non-guessable identifiers. Free-form markdown notes capture the rest.

Categorised document storage PDF & image preview in-app Markdown notes per client
M-05 · Search & AI

Find anything, fast

Full-text search ranks results by relevance. The ⌘K command palette is a keystroke-fast launcher with slash-commands — and an AI assistant you drive in plain language that always confirms before it writes.

Nothing lost by accident

Records archive first (a reversible soft delete). Permanent deletion and client exports run through an approval workflow — typically two admins — with a cascade preview of everything affected before anyone signs off.

02 / Security

Security built into the foundation,
not bolted on.

Synapse holds the most sensitive thing an IT team owns: the keys to everything. Every layer is designed so a single mistake — or a single hijacked session — can't quietly become a breach.

Mandatory MFA

Every user enrols an authenticator app — there's no opting out. Recovery codes are issued at enrolment as your backup if you lose your phone.

Encrypted vault

Secrets are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and padded to a fixed size, so even a password's length can't be inferred from the database.

AES-256-GCM

Step-up authentication

Revealing a credential or approving a deletion or export asks for a fresh authenticator code at that moment — even if you're already signed in.

Append-only audit log

Sign-ins, reveals, creates, updates, deletes, approvals, exports and security events are all recorded — filterable, and exportable to CSV.

Tenant isolation

Your organisation's data is strictly separated from every other organisation on Synapse. No line crosses between tenants.

Two-admin principle

The most destructive actions — permanent deletion and client export — are designed to need two administrators, each with a step-up challenge.

03 / The Alpha

How Alpha access works.

Synapse is live for a limited group of organisations who are putting it through its paces — stress-testing it, reporting bugs, and shaping the wishlist for public beta. Here's how you get in.

Step 01

Request access

Choose Request access on the sign-in screen, or send us a note below. There's no open self-service sign-up — by design.

Step 02

Admin approval

An administrator in your organisation reviews and approves the request. This keeps unknown users out of sensitive documentation.

Step 03

Enrol & secure

On first sign-in you set your password, enrol an authenticator app, and save your recovery codes. Then you're in.

Step 04

Document & tell us

Start documenting real environments. Log bugs, request features, and help us decide what public beta needs to ship with.

Want into the Alpha?

Tell us a little about your team and the environments you manage. We're onboarding Alpha organisations in small batches so we can support each one properly. Already approved? Just sign in.

04 / Built different

Why Synapse, why now.

The IT documentation category has a long-standing incumbent most teams have made peace with. Synapse isn't trying to replace it for everyone — it's built for the teams tired of paying that peace tax.

01

Local, and it stays local.

Hosted in South Africa, with data residency in South Africa by design — not an afterthought or a paid add-on region.

02

Security as the default.

Mandatory MFA, step-up auth on sensitive actions, an encrypted vault and an append-only audit trail — out of the box, for everyone.

03

Driven by language, not menus.

An AI command palette that understands plain requests and confirms before acting — so you move at the speed of thought without losing control.

04

Honest about scope.

We pick a small set of things to do properly and tell you what we don't do. The Alpha wishlist is shaping what public beta ships with.
